Focus on Children Class
Research clearly shows that divorce and separation are times of stress for children and families, and children may be at-risk for many problems including: low self-esteem, poor school performance, acting out behavior, depression, and relationship difficulties. It is also clear that to avoid these problems and to help children cope with the inevitable changes, there are specific things that parents can do. In an effort to convey this information to parents and to protect the children involved, the Focus on Children class was developed. The Focus on Children class provides parents with information about Children's Needs during this time of change, steps to consider to minimize the trauma of divorce, and general "Facts" about divorce. In addition, the court process is reviewed as are the issues of Child Support and Mediation. For parties without legal representation seeking divorce or custody, assistance is available at class for completing a Parent Plan agreement and calculating child support.
This class is required in all new divorce (with children) or paternity/custody cases and contested modification cases filed in the Fourth Judicial District. Parents are required to attend this class and will be court ordered to a date once they have filed their complaint or motions with the court.
EACH PARTY SHALL PAY the fee at the door (this includes proof of attendance). Cash, checks and money orders are accepted. Credit cards are not accepted.
A fee waiver for the class fee is available. Parties need to complete the class fee waiver application/affidavit and class fee waiver order and submit both documents to the Clerk of the Court for approval. If you have already been approved for a fee waiver for the filing of your court case then that waiver will also apply to the class.
The class is located at the Ada County Courthouse, 200 W. Front Street, Boise, Idaho 83702. Please do not bring children to the class. All attendees will be required to pass through a security metal detector to gain entrance to the courthouse.
